WebP Converter

Make your images smaller with WebP, or turn WebP files back into JPG and PNG that open everywhere. Works in batch, many files at once.

Convert images to and from WebP

Convert to
Smaller fileBest quality
JPG has no transparency, so see-through parts get this color.

Your images are converted by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Why WebP

Images make up most of the weight of a typical web page. WebP stores the same picture in fewer bytes than JPG or PNG, so pages load faster, especially on phones. It handles both photos and graphics with transparency, which used to need two formats.

ConvertWhen to use it
JPG or PNG to WebPImages for your website, blog or online shop, to make pages load faster.
WebP to JPGA saved web image that your photo app, an older program or an upload form will not open.
WebP to PNGA WebP with a transparent background, like a logo, that you want to edit or use in a document.

Which quality to choose

For website images, a WebP quality of 75 to 85 is the sweet spot: photos look clean and the files stay small. The quality setting also applies to JPG. PNG is always lossless, so it has no quality setting. Animated WebP and GIF files are converted to a still image of their first frame.

Frequently asked questions

What is WebP?

WebP is an image format made by Google for the web. A WebP image is usually 25 to 35 percent smaller than a JPG of the same quality, and it supports transparency like PNG. All current browsers can show it.

How do I convert WebP to JPG or PNG?

Drop the WebP files and choose JPG or PNG under Convert to. JPG gives small files that open in every program; PNG keeps transparency and every detail. Use this when an app, an editor or an upload form does not accept WebP.

Should my website use WebP images?

Usually yes. Smaller images make pages load faster, which visitors and search engines both notice. Convert your JPG and PNG images to WebP at a quality around 80, and check that they still look right.

Does it work with transparent images?

Yes. Transparency is kept when you convert to WebP or PNG. When you convert to JPG, which has no transparency, the see-through parts are filled with the background color you choose.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Your browser does the conversion on your device, and nothing is sent to a server. Safari can read WebP but cannot save it, so to create WebP files use Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
