What each format becomes in the PDF
A PDF can hold two kinds of pictures, JPG and lossless bitmaps, and every image is stored as the one that suits it. An upright JPG goes in exactly as it is, byte for byte. PNG, GIF and BMP files are stored as PNG, lossless, with transparency kept. WebP, AVIF and HEIC photos are decoded by your browser (HEIC through a decoder of about 3 MB in Chrome, Edge and Firefox) and saved as JPG at quality 92. TIFF files are read by a decoder on your device; every page of a multi-page TIFF becomes its own image. SVG files are drawn at 2000 pixels on the long side. Animated GIFs and WebPs contribute their first frame. The format pages explain each case: PNG, HEIC, WebP, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG and screenshots.
Page size, fit and margin
Fit to image makes every page the shape of its picture. A4, Letter, A3, A5 and Legal put each image on a standard page: Fit inside shows the whole image centered with the margin you pick (none, small or large), Fill page scales it until it covers the page and crops the overhang. Auto orientation turns the page for wide images, or force portrait or landscape for all. Rotate sideways scans with the button under each thumbnail and drag the thumbnails into order. The guide paper sizes A4 vs Letter has the dimensions of the two most common pages.
Need to shrink the result? "Smaller file" saves every image as a JPG with 2000 pixels on the long side; Compress PDF does the same for a PDF you already have. Merge PDF joins several PDFs, and PDF to JPG turns pages back into images.

Frequently asked questions
Which image formats can I convert to PDF?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF (also multi-page), SVG and HEIC photos from iPhones, plus AVIF in browsers that open it. You can mix them freely in one PDF.
Is the image quality kept?
Upright JPGs are copied into the PDF unchanged, and PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF images are stored losslessly. WebP, AVIF and HEIC become high-quality JPGs. Only "Smaller file" reduces the pixels, to 2000 on the long side.
What is the difference between Fit inside and Fill page?
Fit inside shows the whole image on the page with a margin around it. Fill page scales the image until it covers the page completely and cuts off what sticks out, so there is no white border but the edges of the image may be cropped.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the images and writes the PDF on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.
