SVG to PDF

Put logos, icons, diagrams and other SVG graphics into a PDF. Each SVG is drawn by your browser at high resolution and placed on its own page.

Your images are turned into a PDF by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How an SVG becomes a PDF page

An SVG is a vector file: it describes shapes and text, not pixels. This tool does not keep it as vectors. Your browser draws the SVG as an image with 2000 pixels on the long side, and that picture is stored in the PDF as a lossless PNG. On an A4 page with a small margin that works out to about 180 pixels per inch along the long side, enough for crisp printing of logos and diagrams, but a PDF made this way cannot be edited as vectors later and the shapes get soft if you zoom in very far. The size of the drawing comes from the width and height set in the file, or from its viewBox if there are none. Transparent areas stay transparent in the PDF.

Because the SVG is drawn like an image on a web page, scripts inside it do not run and files it links to by web address, such as fonts or pictures, are not loaded. Text uses fonts installed on your device; a font the SVG loads from the web is replaced by a default one. For a PNG file of the drawing on its own, use SVG to PNG, which lets you choose the pixel size. Merge PDF adds the finished page to another document.

Page size for graphics

Fit to image gives a page in the shape of the drawing, with the margin you choose around it, which suits a single logo or diagram. A4 or Letter centers the drawing on a standard page; Auto orientation turns the page for wide drawings. Fill page scales the drawing until it covers the page and cuts off what sticks out, for a full-page background.

How to convert SVG files to PDF

Frequently asked questions

Does the PDF keep the SVG as a vector graphic?

No. The SVG is drawn as a picture with 2000 pixels on the long side and stored as a lossless PNG. That is sharp enough for printing on a standard page, but it is not editable as vectors and softens when you zoom in very far.

Why does my SVG look different in the PDF?

Scripts in the SVG do not run and fonts or images it loads from the web are not fetched, the same way a browser shows an SVG as an image. Text falls back to a font installed on your device. Converting text to paths in your drawing program before you export makes it look the same everywhere.

What size does the drawing get?

Whatever the SVG sets as width and height, or its viewBox when it has no size, scaled so the longer side is 2000 pixels. The page size and margin decide how large it appears on the page.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The SVG is drawn and the PDF written by your browser on your own device.
