How to find anagrams
- 1Type a word, a name or a short phrase. Spaces and punctuation do not count.
- 2Leave Two-word anagrams on to also see pairs of words that use all the letters together. The menu next to it sets the shortest word allowed in a pair; 3 letters keeps out most pairs with tiny filler words.
- 3Press Find anagrams. The results update as you edit the letters.
What counts as an anagram
An anagram rearranges all the letters of a word or phrase into a new one, each letter used exactly as often as in the original. Here is what the solver finds for a few examples, with words of at least 3 letters in the pairs:
| Letters | One-word anagrams | Two-word anagrams (examples) |
|---|---|---|
| listen | enlist, inlets, silent, tinsel | let sin, set nil |
| dormitory | none besides itself | dirty room, dirty moor |
| the eyes | none | they see, thee yes |
| conversation | conservation | nation covers, carves notion and 53 more |
The solver shows the word you typed as well when it is in the list, so you can see the full set of words with these letters. For words made from only some of the letters, open the word unscrambler, which also takes blank tiles.
How two-word anagrams are built
For every word in the list that fits inside your letters, the solver works out the letters that are left over and checks whether they spell another word. Each pair appears once, so "dirty room" and "room dirty" are not both listed, and pairs with two words of similar length come first. Longer phrases can have thousands of pairs; the search stops after 1,000 pairs or 2 seconds and says so. The work runs in a background thread, so the page stays responsive while it searches.
The word list behind the results
Results come from the 12dicts 3of6game list compiled by Alan Beale and released to the public domain. It holds common words from advanced learner's dictionaries, including plurals and verb forms, without names, abbreviations or hyphenated words. We kept the words of 2 to 15 letters and removed slurs and the strongest swear words: 64,236 words in all. A name such as a celebrity's or a rare dictionary word cannot appear in an anagram here.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an anagram and an unscrambled word?
An anagram uses every letter exactly once: "listen" and "silent" are anagrams of each other. An unscrambler also shows shorter words made from some of the letters. This page shows only words and word pairs that use all of them; for shorter words, use the word unscrambler.
How are two-word anagrams found?
The solver takes every word that fits inside your letters, works out which letters are left over, and looks up words made of exactly those leftovers. Each pair is listed once, with the more even splits first. It stops after 1,000 pairs or 2 seconds, so very long phrases show the first pairs it finds.
Can I type a phrase with spaces?
Yes. Spaces, punctuation and digits are ignored, and accented letters count as their plain letter, so "Dormitory" and "dirty room" are both read as the same nine letters.
Why does my name or a famous phrase show no results?
The word list has about 64,000 common English words and no names, so an anagram that needs a name, a rare word or three words or more is not found. Two-word anagrams also need both words in the list.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The word list is downloaded once from our site, and the search runs in a background thread of your browser. Nothing you type leaves your device.
