What does the days between dates calculator do?
It counts how many days lie between two calendar dates. On top of the plain day count you get the same span as weeks and days, as months and days, as working days from Monday to Friday, and as hours. That covers most everyday questions: how long until a deadline, how many nights a trip has, how many days an invoice is overdue, or how many working days are left in a project.
Counting by hand goes wrong easily, because months have 28 to 31 days and leap years add a day. The calculator walks the real calendar, so February and leap years are handled correctly.
How the days are counted
The calculator subtracts the start date from the end date. Monday to Wednesday is 2 days, the same way you would count nights in a hotel. If you tick "Include the end date", both days count and the result is 3. Weeks are the total days divided by 7 with the remainder as days. Months follow the calendar: from January 31 to March 1 is 1 month and 1 day, because February has no 31st.
How to use it
- 1Enter the start date. It is set to today, so for a countdown you only need the end date.
- 2Enter the end date. If it is earlier than the start date, the calculator swaps them and tells you.
- 3Tick "Include the end date" when the last day counts too, for example the length of a stay. Then copy the result or a link with your dates.
Typical uses
- Deadlines and countdowns: days and working days until a launch, an exam or a tax deadline.
- Trips and stays: nights between check-in and check-out, or days of a holiday with the end date included.
- Invoices and contracts: days since an invoice date, or the length of a notice period.
- Projects: working days between milestones, before you subtract holidays and vacation.
Frequently asked questions
Is the end date included in the count?
By default, no. The calculator counts the nights between the two dates, so Monday to Wednesday is 2 days. Tick "Include the end date" to count both days, which gives 3. Use that for things like how many days a rental or a stay lasts.
What counts as a working day?
Monday to Friday. Public holidays are not taken into account, because they differ by country and region. Subtract any holidays in your period yourself.
How are the months and weeks calculated?
Weeks are the total days divided by 7, with the remainder shown as days. Months are counted on the real calendar: the calculator steps forward whole months from the start date and shows the days that are left over, so a month is always as long as it really is.
Can the end date be before the start date?
Yes. The calculator swaps the dates for you and tells you that the end date is earlier, so you still get the correct number of days between them.
Do time zones or the time of day matter?
No. Only the calendar dates you enter are compared, so time zones and daylight saving changes have no effect. Your dates stay in your browser.
