Title case rules
Style guides disagree on details, but they agree on the basics, and the converter follows them:
- Capitalize the important words: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and pronouns.
- Keep small words lowercase: articles (a, an, the), short conjunctions (and, but, or) and short prepositions (in, on, of, to, at).
- Always capitalize the first and last word, and the first word after a colon.
- Capitalize both parts of hyphenated words, like Well-Known, but keep small words inside them lowercase, like Out-of-Date.
Sentence case is the usual choice for body text, buttons and many modern websites: only the first word and proper names are capitalized.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Title Case and Capitalized Case?
Title Case follows the rules used for headlines and book titles: small words like "a", "the", "and", "of" or "in" stay lowercase unless they start or end the title. Capitalized Case simply capitalizes the first letter of every word.
Which title case rules does the converter use?
A mix of AP and Chicago style that works for most headlines: articles, short conjunctions and short prepositions stay lowercase, the first and last word and the word after a colon are always capitalized, and both parts of hyphenated words are capitalized.
Why did NASA or iPhone keep their spelling?
With "Keep acronyms and brand names" on, words in all capitals and words with a capital letter inside, like iPhone or eBay, keep their spelling in Title, Sentence and Capitalized case. Turn it off to change every word.
What are camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case?
Naming styles from programming. camelCase joins words and capitalizes all but the first (userName), PascalCase capitalizes all of them (UserName), snake_case joins them with underscores (user_name), kebab-case with hyphens (user-name) and CONSTANT_CASE uses underscores and capitals (USER_NAME). Each line is converted on its own.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser as you type. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
