Printing your planner pages

  1. Set the paper to the size loaded in your printer. The Letter file measures 8.5 × 11 inches and the A4 file 210 × 297 mm, both in portrait.
  2. Pick all 12 months for a full year, or a single month if you only need the next few weeks. Each month is one page.
  3. In the print dialog, choose 100 % or actual size if there is a scale setting, so the margins and line spacing stay as they are in the file.
  4. To keep the year together, punch the pages for a ring binder or clip them in a folder. The margin is just over half an inch (about 14 mm) on every side.

How to use each part of the page

The calendar grid at the top shows the whole month with a box for every day. Days from the months before and after are printed in light grey, so you can see where the month starts without confusing the dates. Use the boxes for appointments, due dates, birthdays and anything else tied to a specific day.

Goals has five numbered lines. Fill them in at the start of the month with a few outcomes you want by the end of it, such as finishing a course module or saving a set amount. Look at them again when you turn the page to the next month.

To do gives you eight lines, each with a small checkbox. It works best for tasks that belong to the month but not to a fixed date: renew a document, book a repair, call the bank. Tick the box when it is done and carry anything left over to the next page.

Notes fills the rest of the page with ruled lines, eight on Letter and nine on A4. Use it for a monthly review, ideas, phone numbers or a short list of expenses.

Letter or A4, Sunday or Monday

The layout is the same on both paper sizes. The A4 page is slightly narrower and taller than Letter, so the A4 version has one extra note line. Download the size that matches the paper in your printer; that way nothing has to be scaled.

The week can start on Sunday or Monday. Paper size, week start and holidays are preset from your browser's language, and you can change all of them before you download. The calendar boxes always keep the same total height, so months with six rows simply get lower boxes and the lines underneath stay in place.

Which holidays are marked

Holidays are printed in your accent color, with the name in small type inside the day box. The planner marks the day off, which is not always the date of the holiday itself.

  • United States: the eleven legal public holidays in 5 U.S.C. 6103. For most federal employees, OPM treats the Friday before a Saturday holiday and the Monday after a Sunday holiday as the day off. Your employer may follow a different schedule, so check before you plan around a date.
  • United Kingdom: the bank holidays listed on GOV.UK, separately for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, including the substitute days GOV.UK names when a bank holiday falls on a weekend.
  • Canada: the ten general holidays defined in section 166 of the Canada Labour Code.
  • Australia: the national public holidays in section 115 of the Fair Work Act 2009. The King's Birthday is not marked, because the Act ties it to the day each state or territory celebrates it. Days that states and territories substitute or add are not shown either.

Choose None if you want a plain grid without any holidays.

Tools for planning the month

When a call involves people in other cities, the meeting planner lines up working hours across time zones. The business days calculator counts the working days to a deadline without weekends and US federal holidays, and the week number tool tells you which calendar week a date falls in. For a goal with a fixed end date, the countdown timer shows the days left and can be shared as a link.

Frequently asked questions

Is the monthly planner free?

Yes. Download and print it as often as you like, for yourself, your family, a class or a team. There is no signup and no watermark. The only branding is one small line with our web address at the bottom of each page.

Can I print just one month?

Yes. Set Months to the month you need and the PDF has a single page. The file name then carries the month number, for example freebiefy-2027-03-planner-a4.pdf, so several months do not overwrite each other in your downloads folder.

How much room is there for writing?

Every page has five numbered goal lines, eight to-do lines with a checkbox and ruled note lines down to the bottom margin: eight note lines on US Letter and nine on A4. The calendar boxes have the same total height every month, so a month with six weeks gets slightly lower boxes.

Why is a holiday marked on a different day than its date?

The planner marks the day off. For most federal employees, OPM explains, a holiday on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before and one on a Sunday on the Monday after. In 2027, July 4 is a Sunday, so Monday, July 5 is marked as Independence Day.

Can the week start on Monday?

Yes. Choose Monday under Week starts on and the calendar grid on every page begins with Monday and ends with Sunday. The goals, to-do and notes areas stay the same.

Which years can I download?

The planner is available for 2026, 2027 and 2028. The holidays for each year follow the same rules and data, so you can print next year's pages now and keep them in a folder.
